Mandala
Dear Carly, This is more of a "love letter" than a question. I just read your essays, found in another part of this website, and written by you about your life. They are so elegant, rich with passion and memory - like so much of your music, they fill me with emotion. Oh, I guess I do have a question: you mention the mandala; is that a part of your spiritual practice? When my mother was dying, I used to listen to LIFE IS ETERNAL; it gave me so much hope. Love, Luanne Rice - Old Lyme/NYC
Thank you for your kind letter. I don't remember mentioning the mandala, but I have infinite respect for it. I'm glad you got something out of "Life is Eternal". With love, Carly 6/19/02
The Osbournes (Simons)
Would you ever do a show like MTV's The Osbournes? Every time I see it, I think how unbelievable it would be to see you and your family instead. Do you think it's possible to actually forget the cameras are rolling and be onself? Baby you are the BEST! E. Vernikos - Madison, WI
If I did it, I would want to have that red hair that the daughter has. Could I have it? Yes? If so, what can I have in my dressing room? O.K. I'll do it. Love C - 6/14/02
Carly's Clothes
Hello Carly, I think you wear the coolest clothes, I especially love the coat you were wearing on Bravo Profiles when you were at home with Ben and Sally on MV and the shiny silver jacket you were wearing when I saw you in concert on the "Letters Never Sent" tour.
I was wondering, do you have your own personal clothes designer/shopper or do you usually do your own clothes shopping? And I was wondering if you would share with us what your favorite perfume is? Thanks! Roger Ballard -Denver, Colorado
You are so sweet to ask. No, I have no designer nor personal shopper. In fact, I generally never think about clothes. I don't know why because I admire them so much on other people. I never know what I'm going to wear for an evening or if I do, I'm wrong in what I choose and then change it. I used to love to shop and don't anymore. One loses patience for things one had endless time for---before. Love Carly - 6/10/02
Angel From Montgomery
Dear Carly: I just adore your version of "Angel From Montgomery" and would like to know a little bit about the recording of it why it was never included on any of your studio releases. It really rocks! Thanks for giving me so many years of musical pleasure! Donica - Manhattan
I'd always loved the song and I went into the studio in '72 (I think), with Paul Buckmaster and produced two or three tracks (including "I'm all it takes to make you happy" and "Angel.." Elektra rejected them and that's when they asked me to work with Richard Perry. They didn't think Buckmaster would produce a hit record for me. Richard and I began our partnership and went to London and recorded "You're so vain" etc. Love, Carly 6/5/02
PS-Paul Buckmaster is one of the most talented men I have ever worked with and I was sorry the collaboration didn't take off, although he came to London and worked with Richard and myself on arrangements.
