Shelved Songs
Carly,
It's truly amazing to see the number of songs that you have written in the new lyrics database. I recall that when Hello Big Man came out, you had an interview in High Fidelity where you mentioned that you had recorded a number of songs that never made it to the final album, which makes me wonder how many songs have you written that have never seen the light of day? Do you ever revisit them or have you ever recorded a song years later? I hope you keep making music for many years to come.
Tom K - West Chicago, IL
Dear Tom, I would say there are about a hundred songs that never got out there. I would say about ten or twelve, really good ones. Love, Carly - 10/30/04
Jesse and "sons"
Hi Carly, I just purchased your Reflections CD. It's great. The words to so many of the songs really touched me. I was wondering who you wrote the 'Jesse' song about. My eleven year old son's name is Jesse and we're both so glad to hear the name used in the male term instead of the female term. It's also nice for us to like the same song. I told him that the song is about him because he's going to be a heartbreaker. I was just curious if you wrote with anyone in mind. You seem like a devoted mother and a really neat lady.
Sincerely, Tina Gere - Monroe MI
Dear Tina, In actual fact I did write it for my son, Ben. It's the grown-up version of how you can be tied around the finger of a four year old. You promise yourself and you promise yourself, and all that promising is for naught because in the end you give in, pick the young darling from the little bed and carry him to wherever he wants to go, and that pull goes on just about forever (or so I've found!!!)

The Re-do of The Right Thing To Do
Hi Carly! What was it like re-recording 'The Right Thing to Do' with Megan Mulally on the new 'Will & Grace' Soundtrack CD? I bought it yesterday & love it! This has always been one of my favorite Carly songs & it was so cool to hear this new version with lovely harmonies between you & Megan! How did this lovely duet come to be?
John Howton - Atlanta, GA
It was so much fun to record with Megan Mullally and Jimmy Jam is one of my favorite producers and what a darling he is. Megan is divine and boy can she sing!!!!!!
I totally loved the whole event except for the blouse I was wearing that day. I think it was a little 'not right'. Love, Carly - 10/7/04
