When You Close Your Eyes
Dear Carly, Along with the rest of your dedicated fans, I have delighted in your music and in collecting almost your entire catalog of music. Up until "Coming Around Again", I do have most of the original releases in album format. They are so beautiful to play and look at, whereas in CD's the artwork itself did get compromised. My question is rather banal to most, but for me it has always been in the back of my mind to know what was the inspiration and even subject of "When You Close Your Eyes." I've always found it a favorite. Thank you and congratulations on "Moonlight Serenade" and your concert tour.

You know, I've always wondered the same thing. The lyric was written by Billy Mernit and he played piano too and on many things. It was written during a time when we could slip in and out of psychodelic priviledges. Sweet Lorelei was undoubtedly some lovely whisp of a thing out of Blake. A Salamandar of Mermaid or Starlight. Thank you for writing about it. I find that a lot of people do. Love from Carly - 11/18/05
Bogart Fan?
Carly, On Coming Around Again you do a cover of As Time Goes By from Casablanca and The Stuff That Drams Are Made Of, a line from The Maltese Falcon. Are you a Bogart / classic movie fan?

And how, I am a Bogie fan and you're right, I stripped the phrase "the stuff that dreams are made of" from that movie, though I know that Shakespeare has the copyright on it.
We can all share. Love, Carly - 11/6/05
