Accessibility.

This archive is meant to be walked through by anyone. Where it isn't yet, I would rather say so plainly than let you find out on your own.

Where this stands

I am working toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. I am not claiming to have got there. No full independent audit has been done, and until one has, a badge saying otherwise would be worth nothing to you. What follows is what I have checked myself, and what I already know is wrong.

What is built in

• Every page is navigable by keyboard, and whatever you are on is drawn with a visible focus ring — never removed for the sake of looks.
• The first thing your keyboard reaches on any page is a Skip to content link, so you are never made to tab through the whole top bar to get to what you came for.
• Every photograph carries alternative text, or is marked as decorative so a screen reader passes over it rather than reading a filename aloud.
• Pages are structured with real landmarks and headings in order, so a screen reader can move between sections instead of reading everything.
• Every button and link has a name that says what it does, and every form field has a label attached to it.
• If your system asks for reduced motion, the site listens. The dissolves, the wave between rooms and the drifting rain all stop.
• Nothing here depends on colour alone to make sense, and text reflows rather than scrolling sideways down to a phone.

What is not right yet

A pass over the main pages on 13 August 2026 found three things. Two are fixed — the missing skip link, and the front, sign-in and join pages having no top-level heading — and are gone from this list rather than left on it for credit. Two remain:

• Some small text is too faint. The soft brown used for footnotes, eyebrows and the footer sits at about 3.8:1 against the paper behind it, where the standard asks for 4.5:1. One label on the album page is fainter still, at about 2.4:1. It is legible for most people and not for everyone, which is the whole point of the standard. Changing it means changing a colour the whole site is built from, so it is a decision rather than a patch, and it has not been made yet.
• The archive journey has no skip link. The members' walk from the water's edge to the badge is built on its own shell, which the fix above did not reach. If you are walking it by keyboard, tell me and I will move it up the list.

I will answer within five working days. If a fix will take longer than that, I will tell you what I am doing and roughly when — and in the meantime I will get you what you were after another way. If there is something in the archive you cannot reach, ask me for it directly and I will send it to you.

The parts I do not control

Signing in and creating an account are handled by Clerk, and the shop, when it is open, by Squarespace. I have chosen them and I am answerable for that choice — so if either one is where you get stuck, tell me anyway. I would rather hear it and press them than have you give up.

How this page is kept honest

The list above is not decoration: it is what a scripted pass over the main pages actually reported, and it is updated when the pass is re-run. Two things came off it the day it was written, because they were fixed that day. A statement that still admits to a problem already solved is as misleading as one that hides a problem that is not.
