The story of the record

Not all at once. In sets, like weather.

Nearly twenty years since I released This Kind of Love in 2009, I went back to where I live—one of my studios on Martha’s Vineyard, Sally’s little-girl bedroom with the torn roses on the wallpaper—to make music with some of the people closest to me, including my son, Ben Taylor, and my daughter, Sally Taylor, whose incredible artwork also adorns the covers of my singles.

Comes in Waves also carries one of the last performances by John Forté, the singer, composer, producer, and dearest of friends, to whom this album is dedicated. Also here is an appearance on “Slowly” from the brilliant harpist, Andreas Vollenweider, who I yanked back from the Alps.

Official Lyric Videos

The first single · June 11, 2026

“Howl”

If love is a storm, betrayal can feel like a battlefield. “Howl” is about giving love its due and letting it all out—frustration, anger, hurt, madness. “You’ve got to swoon like a diva. Burn all the letters where he swore he’d never leave ya’.”

— Carly

Written by Carly Simon and David Spencer. Cover painting by Sally Taylor.

The second single · July 31, 2026

“Peaches”

“Peaches” is a song about getting what you’ve always dreamed of, and realizing the moment of transcendence was in the dream, not the thing itself.

— Carly

Session takes, working drafts, and my daughter Sally’s cover painting up close are waiting behind these songs. Join and walk in when the doors open.

Behind every song

I keep everything

working tapes, handwritten lyrics, photographs from the studio, coasters and matchboxes from a vanished parade of hotels and restaurants…the works. I’ll be dedicating a room for each one of these twelve songs, a first look experience open to everyone.

One page is already out in the open — the rose , mine to give, yours to pass along.

Elsewhere

Come find me in the other rooms too.
