Norman Seeff is a legendary rock-and-roll photographer and filmmaker, widely regarded as one of the most influential image-makers of the modern music era — known for capturing artists in moments of authenticity, electricity, and emotional truth. His images have come to define cultural memory.
His sessions were legendary: part performance, part collaboration, always aimed at revealing the artist’s creative core. Seeff’s work exists at the intersection of music, film, science, cultural influence, and Fine Art Photography — engaging artists, thinkers, and global figures in a shared exploration of creativity and self-expression.

ABOUT THE PLAYING POSSUM SESSION
Carly Simon’s Playing Possum album was released in April 1975, and the cover — photographed by Norman Seeff — became one of the decade’s most provocative and unforgettable images. Carly’s bold, sensual pose challenged the norms of its time and asserted a powerful sense of artistic control and individuality.
The Playing Possum shoot remains one of Norman’s favorite sessions with Carly:

Carly Simon goes posh performing for a black-tie crowd in the elegant A Moonlight Serenade on the Queen Mary 2. After a husky reading of Big Band standard "Moonlight Serenade," Simon keeps the couples swaying with "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "Where or When," before turning to more familiar ground on her own pop hits "Jesse" and "Coming Around Again." An easygoing "Moonglow" and warmly stylish "The More I See You" are followed by more from Simon's pen, including a crisp "You Belong to Me" and witty "You're So Vain." A very special feature is an entire, informal set (away from crowds) of several of Simon's most beloved, acoustic classics, among them "Anticipation," "No Secrets," and "Boys in the Trees." I seem to have inherited this passion as I have continued to plant and prune and cherish these exquisite plants. I photograph the new blooms each spring hoping to capture something of this intoxicating moment. My childhood friend Ellen Questel's artistic talents enabled us to breathe life into these pictures creating wearable works of art. Each scarf has an excerpt from one of my songs.
